Sometimes generosity isn't found only in what the world gives us. Sometimes it's found in realizing we were never unnoticed.

Today, instead of asking "What do I notice?", ask a different question: Who notices me?

As you walk, pay attention to the moments when another living thing becomes aware of your presence. A robin pauses on a branch. A squirrel watches from the base of a tree. Ducks glance up from the water. A rabbit slips into the grass.

Each time it happens, quietly remind yourself: "For just a moment, I became part of their day."

Don't try to make something happen. Simply notice the moments when you realize the living world has been noticing you too.

It's easy to imagine ourselves moving through nature unnoticed, as if we were simply watching the world go by. But the living world has never experienced us that way — and that, itself, is a kind of generosity.

Birds decide whether to keep singing when we approach. Deer lift their heads. Squirrels pause. Even the smallest creatures change their paths because we entered their world. None of that attention was owed to us — the world gave it anyway. Perhaps generosity isn't only found in what the world offers us. Perhaps it's found in realizing we've belonged to it all along.
