Walk Like a Poet
one line can change an entire walk

You already walk. This gives those walks somewhere to go β€” a line from a real poem, a prompt that opens it up, and two minutes of writing when you get back. Same route. Completely different walk. Less than a coffee a month.

The Shift

What's different when you walk with something to carry

Before β†’

You walk the same route and think the same thoughts. You come back feeling about the same.

After β†’

You walk with a prompt that tilts the lens. The same street looks different. You come back with something you didn't have before.

Before β†’

You want to write but the blank page is demanding. Nothing comes. You close the notebook.

After β†’

The line, the prompt, and the walk have already done the thinking. You sit down and just write what came through.

Before β†’

Poetry feels like something for other people. Literary. A bit intimidating.

After β†’

You're just borrowing one line β€” the one that catches you. No analysis required. Your instinct is the whole method.

From the Community

What walkers say after the week

"I've walked the same route for two years. This week I noticed things I've never seen before. The poem just changed what I was looking for."

Sarah M. Β· 100 Walks Club member

"I didn't think I was a poetry person. I'm still not sure I am. But I carried that one line for three miles and wrote something true when I got home."

Claire B. Β· 100 Walks Club member

"The two-minute write felt silly at first. By day four I was sitting down before I even took my shoes off. Something was always there."

Rachel T. Β· 100 Walks Club member

"I didn't expect to keep going after the seven days. But I opened the app on day eight with a line from something I'd read the night before. I'm still going."

The same street. The same trees. The same Tuesday β€” but something in it is different now.
This Is For You If…

You're the kind of person who notices things.

βœ“You already walk β€” and you like the way your mind moves when you do. You just want to give it something interesting to chew on.
βœ“You've had moments on a walk where something β€” a shaft of light, a stranger's face, a tree you've passed a hundred times β€” suddenly felt worth stopping for. You want more of those moments.
βœ“You're drawn to words β€” poems, essays, a sentence that stops you mid-scroll. You love language but don't always know how to make it yours.
βœ“You want a little more creativity in your daily life β€” something that feels alive β€” but without the pressure of making something good.
βœ“You like the idea of writing β€” but the blank page is a bit much. You'd love a reason to write that gives you somewhere to start.
βœ“You want your week to feel like it had something in it β€” a little texture, a little intention β€” without it being a whole thing.

"One line can change the way you experience an entire walk. The same street. The same trees. The same Tuesday β€” but something in it is different now."

That's what this does.

The Poem
"Hope" is the thing with feathers
Emily Dickinson
"Hope" is the thing with feathers β€”
That perches in the soul β€”
And sings the tune without the words β€”
And never stops β€” at all β€”

Yet β€” never β€” in Extremity,
It asked a crumb β€” of me.
The Snag β€” the line that caught you
"It asked a crumb β€” of me."
Your Walking Prompt

Today, notice what asks nothing of you. A tree. The air. A stranger who doesn't notice you back. What gives without requiring anything in return?

When You Return β€” 2 Minutes

No editing. No audience. Just whatever the walk loosened.

"I kept thinking about the grass. It doesn't try. It just keeps coming back. Maybe that's enough…"

The Story

How Walk Like a Poet came to exist

Hi. I'm Kate, and I run the 100 Walks Club β€” a community of 475+ people who walk on purpose.

For years I watched people in the 100 Walks Club come back from walks changed in small ways β€” softer, more present. They'd share things: a patch of light, a tree they'd passed a hundred times that suddenly seemed worth stopping for. The common thread wasn't the walking. It was that they'd gone out with something to carry. Something that gave their attention somewhere to go.

I started noticing what certain lines of poetry did to me on walks β€” not the whole poem, just one line that would catch and stay. I'd find myself noticing things I wouldn't have otherwise. So I combined the two: a poem each morning, one line you choose, a walk with a prompt built around it, a few minutes of writing when you get home. That became Walk Like a Poet. Once you've done it, the same streets start looking different. You're not walking differently β€” you're just paying attention differently. And that turns out to be everything.

FAQ

You might be wondering…

What exactly is Walk Like a Poet?
+
It's a 7-day guided experience inside the 100 Walks Club app. Each morning you get a poem, choose a line, walk with a prompt that opens it up, and write for two minutes when you get back. On day seven you receive 7 custom walking prompts, a portrait of your week, and insights from across it. It comes free with the 100 Walks Club at $9/month.
What else is in the 100 Walks Club?
+
The club is a community of 475+ people who walk on purpose. Alongside Walk Like a Poet, you get ongoing walking experiences and challenges every season, the full community, and β€” if you join before June 30 β€” the Kindling Awe Walking Kit. New experiences are added regularly. It's $9/month and you can cancel any time.
Can I get Walk Like a Poet without joining the club?
+
Yes β€” it's available as a standalone for $49 if you'd prefer no subscription. But the club is the better deal: everything in the standalone, plus the community, plus Kindling Awe Walking Kit until June 30, plus future experiences β€” for $9/month, cancel any time.
Do I need to understand poetry?
+
Not at all. You're reading to find the line that snags you β€” not to analyze anything. The instinct of noticing what catches you is the whole first step.
Do I have to write well?
+
The freewrite is private. No one reads it. No quality bar. Two minutes, no editing β€” just whatever comes. Most people find their most honest writing happens here precisely because the pressure is off.
How much time does it take each day?
+
A few minutes to read the poem and choose your line. Your normal walk, however long that is. Two minutes of writing when you return. You're adding meaning to a walk you were already going to take.
What if I miss a day?
+
The days don't expire and there's no group to keep up with. Come back the next day, or the day after. The poems wait. The prompts wait. Most people find the rhythm easier to keep than they expected.

Still here? That usually means you already know.
