I have a confession to make – windy days are my absolute favorite. There’s something magical that happens when the wind picks up. The whole world seems to come alive, doesn’t it? Trees dance, birds surf invisible waves, and suddenly everything feels more vibrant and real.
Why I Fall in Love with Wind Every Time
You know that feeling when a good breeze hits your face? It’s like nature’s way of waking us up, reminding us we’re alive. I’ve spent countless hours watching leaves spiral through the air and clouds race across the sky. Each windy day feels like a personal invitation to slow down and notice the world around us.
Simple Ways to Experience Wind’s Magic
Let me share some of my favorite ways to connect with windy days. These are things I’ve discovered over years of just playing around outside (yes, adults can still play!):
Find a Quiet Spot:Â I love finding a comfortable place to sit, preferably somewhere in nature. Sometimes it’s just a bench in my local park, other times it’s my favorite hiking spot. The key is to pause and really notice what’s happening around you.
Notice Nature’s Response:
- Watch how different trees move – some sway gracefully while others barely budge
- Look for birds playing in the wind (they’re seriously having a blast up there!)
- Notice how insects and smaller animals adapt to the breeze
Get Personal with the Wind: Try walking against it – it’s like nature’s resistance training! Then turn around and let it push you forward. Close your eyes for a moment (just make sure you’re in a safe spot first). It’s amazing how different the wind feels when you can’t see it.
Making it Mindful
Through developing my 100 Walks programs, I’ve learned that these simple moments in nature can be incredibly powerful. Here’s what I like to ask myself on windy days:
- How does this wind make me feel? Energized? Peaceful?
- What memories does it bring up?
- Can I imagine the wind carrying away my stress?
A Personal Invitation
Next time you hear those trees rustling outside your window, don’t just stay inside. Bundle up if you need to, and step out into that wild, wonderful energy. Take a few deep breaths. Let yourself feel that connection to something bigger than yourself.
I’d love to hear about your own wind adventures. Do you have a special memory of a particularly windy day? Or maybe a favorite spot where you like to watch the world move in the breeze?
Remember, you can start small. Even just pausing for a moment on your way to the car can be enough to catch a bit of that windy day magic. Trust me – the wind has so much to teach us if we just take time to notice
I LOVE windy days. It’s like it’s blowing through my primal wild side. The one that gets tired of being prim and proper. It feels freeing to me.
